Notes:
[1] The fifth buddha is said to
be Maitreya, the future buddha as predicted by buddha Shakyamuni. Therefore,
this line of praise is placing the Seventeenth Karmapa in a similar position to
Maitreya and the buddhas that appear before him.
[2] This is an epithet for
Avalokitesvara, of whom the Karmapas are said to be an emanation of.
