 གཞས། ཚངས་དབྱངས་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མགུར་གླུ།།

ལེན་མཁན། བསམ་གཏན།།

ངུར་སྨྲིག་མདོག་གིས་བསྒྱུར་བའི།།
Ngur mig dog gi gyur way
བླ་མ་ཡོད་རྒྱུ་ཡིན་ན།།
La ma yö gyu yin na
མཚོ་སྟོད་གསེར་བྱ་ངང་བས།།
Tsho tö ser ja ngang wey
འགྲོ་བ་འདྲེན་པ་འདུག་གོ།
Dro wa dren pa duk go

If there were someone who
Could become a guru [just] by donning saffron robes
Then surely the yellow water fowl
Could act as a spiritual guide for beings!


མཚོ་སྟོད་གསེར་བྱ་ངང་བས།།
Tsho tö ser ja ngang wey
འགྲོ་བ་འདྲེན་པ་འདུག་གོ།
Dro wa dren pa duk go

Then surely the yellow water fowl
Could act as a spiritual guide for beings!

གཞན་ཟེར་ཚིག་ཟློས་ཁྱེར་བས།།
Shen ser tshig dö khyer wey
བསླབ་གསུམ་བསྟན་པ་འཛིན་ན།།
Lab sum ten pa dzin na
འདབ་ཆགས་ཨ་བོ་ནེ་ཙོས།།
Dab chag ah bo ne tsö
ཆོས་འཁོར་བསྐོར་བ་འདུག་གོ།
Chö khor kor wa duk go

For those who carry any heretical mantras
If they [could still] uphold the teachings of the three trainings**
[Then surely] the uncle of birds, the parrot,
Should be able to turn the wheel of dharma!

འདབ་ཆགས་ཨ་བོ་ནེ་ཙོས།།
Dab chag ah bo ne tsö
ཆོས་འཁོར་བསྐོར་བ་འདུག་གོ།
Chö khor kor wa duk go

[Then surely] the uncle of birds, the parrot,
Should be able to turn the wheel of dharma!

Sang gye ten pay dra wo

A cloud golden outside but black deep within
Is the source of frost and hail;
A buddhist who is neither white nor yellow***
Is an enemy of the buddha's teachings

བན་དེ་སྐྱ་མིན་སེར་མིན།།
Ben de kya min ser min
སངས་རྒྱས་བསྟན་པའི་དགྲ་བོ།།
Sang gye ten pay dra wo

*Tsangyang Gyamtso was the famous sixth Dalai Lama, who is renowned throughout Tibet for his poetry
**The Three Trainings are: discipline, meditative concentration, and wisdom
***"White and yellow" is a metaphor for the two types of spiritual practitioners: monastic and lay
