Gyang shü theng chik gi dzey
ལོ་རྒྱུས་ཀྱི་ཟེའུ་འབྲུ།
Lo gyü kyi seu dru

Ema! Amazing!
Great starlight of the world,
The traces you left departing to a far-off land,
Are the flower-anthers* of legend.


མཐོ་བོད་གངས་རྩེ་ནས་ལྷོ་གླིང་བཞད་པའི་ཀརྨ་པ།
Tho phö kang tse ney lho ling shey pay kar ma pa
བཙན་པོ་མཁའ་རུ་གཤེགས་ཤུལ།
Tsen po kha ru shek shül
འོད་ཀྱིས་འཚེར་བའི་ལྷ།
Ö kyi tsher way lha

Oh Karmapa, you who left the high snow peaks of Tibet for the southern continent,
Leading the way towards the heavens so hard to reach
You are a god radiating with light.

གྱ་གྱུའི་ལོ་ཟླ་རིང་མོར།
Gya gyü lo da ring mor
མི་རིགས་ཀྱི་ཚེ་སྲོག་ལགས་ཀརྨ་པ།
Mi rig kyi tshey sok la kar ma pa
དུས་ཀྱི་ཕོ་ཉ།
Dü kyi pho nya
ངའི་སེམས་ནང་གི་སྒྲོན་མེ།
Ngay sem nang gi drön mey

Feeling the highs and lows** for so long,
You are the life-essence of our people, Karmapa!
Oh emissary of our time!
You are the light within my heart.

བྷོཊའི་ལྗོངས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་སྲས།
Bho tey jong kyi gyel sey
ཁ་བའི་ལྷ་ཕྲུག
Kha way lha thruk
དུས་རབས་ཤིག་གི་སྐར་ཆེན།
Dü rab shik gi kar chen
ཀརྨ་པ་མཁྱེན།
Kar ma pa khyen

Bodhisattva of the Tibetan land,
Youthful deity of the snow,
You are the great star of our era.
Karmapa, know me!

ཨེ་མ་ངོ་མཚར་ཆེ།
Eh ma ngo tshar chey
རི་རབ་ཀྱི་བཙན་རྫོང་ཞིག་ནས།
Ri rab kyi tsen dzong shik ney
འགག་ཕྲེང་ཧད་ཀྱིས་བརྒལ་ཏེ།
Gag threng hey kyi gel te
སྙིང་སྟོབས་ཀྱི་ཀི་སྒྲ།
Nying tob kyi ki dra

Ema! Amazing!
From the citadel of the great mountain
Passing swiftly beyond the mountain passes
Resounding your spiritual power.

མཐོ་སྒང་ཡུལ་གྲུ་ནས་གླིང་བཞིར་ཁྱབ་པའི་ཀརྨ་པ་།
Tho gang yül dru ney ling shir khyab pay kar ma pa
རི་ལུང་ཁྲི་འབུམ་ཀློང་ནས།
Ri lung ti bum long ney
ཁེར་འགྲོའི་སྐར་ཆེན་ལགས།
Ker drö kar chen la

Oh Karmapa, [your fame] has spread from the plateau country throughout the four continents,
Among thousands of mountains and valleys
You stand out alone as the great star.

རེ་བའི་འོད་རླབས་འཚེར་བའི།
Re way ö lab tsher way
ཐུ་བྷོད་ཀྱི་དཔལ་རྒོད་ལགས་ཀརྨ་པ་།
Thu bhö kyi pel gö la kar ma pa
གངས་རིའི་དབུ་བླ།
Kang ri u lha
ངའི་སྙིང་དབུས་ཀྱི་ནོར་བུ།
Ngay nying ü kyi nor bu

Radiating light waves of hope,
You are the chief glory of Tibet, Karmapa.
Head spiritual master of the snow mountains,
You are the jewel in the center of my heart.

འཛམ་གླིང་སྐྱེ་འགྲོའི་རེི་ལྟོས།
Dzam ling kye drö re tö
ཞི་བདེའི་འོད་མདངས།
Shi dey ö dang
ཁ་བའི་ལྗོངས་འདིར་སྦོར་ཤིག
Kha way jong dir bor shik
ཀརྨ་པ་མཁྱེན།
Kar ma pa khyen

Hope of the beings of this world,
Radiance of peace,
Illuminate this land of snow!
Karmapa, know me!

*This term is meant to be poetic in Tibetan, but there seems to be no proper equivalent in English, and so I have rendered it literally.
**This term was explained to me by a Sherpa friend of mine and so I have rendered it according to his explanation. The literal meaning of the term གྱ་གྱུ་ means that something is crooked, swirling, or flickering.
