Note: In case there is any confusion, this phrase ཨ་་་ཡ་ལ་ནས་སོ། "Ah ya la ney so" does not have any real meaning and thus is untranslatable. From what I can intuit, in Tibetan music phrases like this are usually meant to convey a sense of ecstasy or amazement (something like--but not exactly like--how we might use the phrase "Hallelujah!" or "Wow!"). The other untranslated terms in the song are all names of places in Tibet, which I am mentioning here just in case, but it should be self-evident. I also had a bit of a challenge deciding how to translate the term སྐྱིད་པོ "kyi po" which usually just means 'happy' or 'joyful', but usually when referring to a place it just means 'pleasant' or 'nice'. However, the tone of this song is connoting something much more than just 'pleasant' so I decided that a much more nuanced and appropriate translation would be 'wonderful', though I think in this case something like 'happy' or 'joyful' would have been suitable as well. Also, as far as the term ཕ་ཡུལ "pha yül" is concerned, I like to translate this literally as "fatherland" instead of as either motherland or homeland as it would be said in English. This is just my preference, as I think it is interesting to note these little differences between languages.
